Happiness is a ChoiceSubmitted by WWK Wealth Advisors on July 11th, 2013
Are you happy?
Abraham Lincoln said “most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.” After 23 years of working with people and talking to them about their lives, I’ve found this to be true. It really didn’t matter if they were extremely wealth or with modest means. Some where generally happy and optimistic and some weren’t.
Earlier this year I was invited to the Barron’s Top Independent Advisor Summit and listened to a presentation based on the book The How of Happiness. It was fascinating. Based on research the author, Sonja Lyubomirsky, P.H.D, believe’s that each individual has their own “happiness set point” which determines about “50 percent of happiness while a mere 10 percent can be attributed to differences in life circumstances or situations. This leaves a startling, and startlingly underdeveloped 40 percent of our capacity for happiness within our power to change.” Her book outlines things we can do to develop this 40 percent. It is worth reading.
At WWK, we believe that having a framework for making smart financial decisions ultimately helps make people happy. That’s why we created our LIVE WELL process to help clients gain control of their financial futures and focus on the important things in their life. It isn’t rocket science. It is just helping people have lots of little conversations to make smart financial decisions that align with the things they care about most.
